The process begins with the completion of
our “Contact Us” email form where you can easily describe
your product or attach photos and or drawings of your product
directly from your computer. Upon receiving the product specifications,
our customer service agents will acknowledge your inquiry
the next business day and start working to process your inquiry.
The factories submit competitive quotes for your business
from our approved manufacturers. Please allow 3-7 days while
we negotiate preliminary pricing on your behalf.
Once a quote is accepted, the customer issues
a Purchase Order pending approval of the manufactured samples.
The vender that has submitted the most competitive quote and
also meets your quality standards will be ask to manufacture
samples of your product. As soon as the sample is approved
a Letter of Credit and/or wire transfer will be posted for
the benefit of China Buy Direct.
Materials will purchased and our Ningbo office
will oversee and manage the complete production run, maintaining
strict quality control measures. Money is not released until
goods have been inspected and delivered to the port.
China Buy Direct is affiliated with reputable
freight forwarders that specifically handle the transportation
of the goods. This not only assures you of a competitive price
and faster delivery service, but also ensures container availability
during the tight holiday season when most products are scheduled
to arrive.
Finally, when the goods arrive in the port they
have to clear customs where the duties are paid. China Buy
Direct is also affiliated with top customs house brokers that
have the right connections to guarantee smooth and quick entry
into the US. This is especially important due to stringent
post 9/11 security precautions. Once cleared, your product
is loaded on a train or truck and delivered to your door.
Payment
Terms
Financing and how the money exchange occurs is
an important segment of direct importing. In order to make
importing cost efficient you must have the means to buy in
bulk. However, this doesn't mean you have to put yourself
at risk. China Buy Direct has relationships with trustworthy
factories which make the transaction process much safer. Over
time, and with repeated transactions, it may be possible to
establish credit terms and make simple payments via wire transfer.
Letters
of Credit
The difficulty in overseas importing is the buyer
is hesitant to release payment until he has the goods in hand,
while the seller, the manufacturer, is hesitant to release
or produce the product until he has the money upfront. The
common practice used in the importing industry to prevent
this gridlock is the Letter of Credit. The Letter of Credit
is designed to protect both parties involved, the buyer and
the seller.
Other methods of payment such as an Open Account,
Time Draft, Sight Draft, and simple wire transfer require
a longer relationship before terms can be negotiated. It is
for this reason that initial orders of goods are imported
through the use of the Letter of Credit.
In short, a Letter of Credit is posted by your
bank, to our bank (The Shanghai Commercial And Savings Bank Ltd. Offshore Banking Branch Taipei, Taiwan) on your behalf, and represents
an obligation that your monies will be released once the manufacturer
has delivered your goods to the port or ship. Furthermore,
the seller must deliver specified documents, which act as
title to the goods, while meeting your predetermined conditions.
The Letter of Credit protects the buyer or importer
by allowing the buyer to stipulate the terms that need to
be met before monies are released. In the Letter of Credit,
the buyer should request the proper documents required such
as the Commercial Invoice, a clean on board Ocean Bill of
Lading, a Packing List, Weight List, and an Insurance Certificate
and Most importantly, you should always stipulate our exclusive
China Buy Direct Inspection Certificate.
The importer should also set the term or the duration
of the L/C, the latest shipment date, the port of origin,
the port of destination, as well as the type of Letter of
Credit. The Letter of Credit should conform to the Uniform
Customs and Practice for Documentary Credit, also know as
UPC 500. It is the set of procedures instituted by the International
Chamber of Commerce and is the accepted banking practice in
over 150 countries.
After prices have been agreed upon and the Purchase
Order has been processed, a small deposit is usually required
to secure materials and show good faith to the supplier. The
Letter of Credit is then drafted by your bank and the pre-determined
agreed upon funds are put in an escrow account. The banks
will act as an intermediary in the transaction to make sure
everything goes smoothly and correctly. If you don't have
a line of credit with your bank, the bank will require 100%
collateral. Once you apply for an L/C, your bank will advise
the manufacturer's bank that funds have been placed in escrow
on his behalf. This is the first step or notification that
allows the manufacturer to proceed with production of your
goods. In the second step of the process, the manufacturer
ships your product and presents the required documents to
his bank. In the final step, the documents are transferred
to your bank and your bank carefully checks all the documents
against the requirements stated in the L/C. If everything
is order, they will release the monies in the escrow account
to seller. These documents serve as title to the goods, they
are forwarded to you. If the documents presented by the seller
are not in order the payment on the Letter of Credit is rejected.
Your bank will notify you and a decision must be made on how
to proceed. In most cases a settlement is made through negotiations
with the seller.
As the seller has already produced the goods and
is in default of the terms of the Letter of Credit, you have
complete control. For instance, a late shipment can be cancelled
or even renegotiated at a discounted price. Please note: China
Buy Direct, does not accept any orders that have potential
for being late.
It is important to remember that although the
importer can require an onerous set of instructions in the
Letter of Credit, in practice, a too stringent requirement
may delay receipt of the goods. Though amendments can be filed
this takes time and could delay the delivery of your goods.
The necessary documentation specified by Uniform Customs and
Practice for Documentary Credit should more then adequately
protect you.
In this manner both importer and exporter are
protected. Furthermore, a stringent inspection process by
China Buy Direct and Ningbo staff should further allay concerns.
